U.S. high school students’ math & reading scores hit lowest levels in 20 + years

According to the latest results of the National Assessment of Educational Progress, 12th-grade students in the U.S. scored at their lowest levels in more than two decades in both math and reading, with 32% of seniors below “basic” in reading and 45% below “basic” in math — the trend reflects longstanding declines in academic achievement that were worsened by the pandemic and are raising growing concerns about the nation’s preparedness for higher education and the workforce.
