In 2025, the average annual health insurance premium for U.S. families with employer-sponsored coverage rose by 6%, reaching nearly $27,000, according to a survey by the health-policy organization KFF. Of that total, workers contributed an average of $6,850, with employers covering the remainder. The cost increase was primarily driven by higher spending on prescription drugs, particularly GLP-1 weight-loss medications like Wegovy and Zepbound, which have gained popularity for their effectiveness in aiding weight loss.
